Doyle Statement on the Passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings
Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Mike Doyle (D-PA) released the following statement after learning of the death of Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD).
“Congressman Cummings was a hardworking public servant and a decent, gracious individual who was highly respected on both sides of the aisle.
The son of sharecroppers who rose to national leadership as the chair of one of the House’s most powerful committees, Congressman Cummings served his constituents and our nation for many years with thoughtful, grounded leadership and civility. He treated everyone with kindness, and he had many friends in both parties. Nevertheless, he demonstrated an unfailing commitment to serving our country with the highest integrity, and he was a relentless advocate for justice and equal rights.
Congress has lost a great public servant. Congressman Cummings will be deeply missed in the House of Representatives. I want to extend my condolences to his family and to the City of Baltimore, which he loved deeply and served proudly for many years.”
