July 11, 2009 – Congressman Doyle spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new headquarters building of the Heritage Community Initiatives, a non-profit service provider in the Mon Valley.
April 20, 2009 - U.S. Representative Doyle presented Steph Goodrow from West Mifflin High School with the First Prize in the 2009 Congressional High School Art Competition for the 14th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. Her artwork, which will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year, is a chalk, pastel, and charcoal composition entitled "A Walk." Her work was selected out of a collection of 55 entries from 12 high schools in Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District.
April 20, 2009 – The second place prize went to Chloe Weiss from Penn Hills High School for her colored pencil drawing "Bullseye."
April 20, 2009 – The third place prize went to Shelby Gitchel from Taylor Allderdice High School for the drawing, "My Older Sister."
April 20, 2009 – The fourth place prize went to George Cessna from the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts for his digital print called "Joey."
April 20, 2009 – The fifth place prize went to Sidney Turba from Penn Hills High School for the colored pencil drawing entitled "Skittles."
March 26, 2009 – Congressman Doyle joined Congressman Tim Murphy, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis at the Community College of Allegheny County to talk about the potential that "green" jobs hold for America's future – and the need to provide Americans with the skills needed to take advantage of those jobs.
March 13, 2009 – Congressman Doyle took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the VA Healthcare Consolidation Building on University Drive in Pittsburgh.
January 23, 2009 – Congressman Doyle showed senior citizens how to hook digital converter boxes up to their analog television sets at the Forest Hills Senior Center.
September 5, 2008 – Congressman Doyle and State Senator Wayne D. Fontana presented several long-overdue military awards to Augustine Russo of Dormont. Mr. Russo, a U.S. Army Army veteran, served in the 40th Fighter Squadron of the 35th Fighter Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater in World War II but never received several medals and awards he had earned. After being notified of Mr. Russo’s case by Senator Fontana, Congressman Doyle worked with the Department of Defense to secure these awards. Congressman Doyle and Senator Fontana presented Mr. Russo with a WWII Victory Medal, an Asian Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, and a Marksmanship badge with carbine bar.
September 4, 2008 – U.S. Representatives Altmire, Doyle, and Murtha toured Carnegie Mellon University today to look at some of the new research projects underway at CMU.
March 19, 2008 – Congressman Doyle presented a check for $1,675,000 to Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, State Senator Jay Costa, and the Pittsburgh Fire Department to purchase two new aerial trucks and new equipment for the fire academy and City fire stations.
February 11, 2008 – Congressman Doyle spoke at The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center to announce that he had secured $307,000 for the ongoing expansion project at The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center in Pittsburgh.
February 5, 2008 – Congressman Doyle and New Pittsburgh Courier publisher Rod Doss examinde some of the 750,000 photographs contained in the archives of the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper. Congressman Doyle secured $150,000 in federal funding to protect, preserve, digitize, and exhibit these historically significant photos.
January 3, 2008 – Congressman Doyle announced that he had secured $470,000 for the East End Cooperative Ministry’s programs for at-risk youth. This federal funding will be used to support in-school and after-school outreach programs that are designed to give at-risk youth opportunities in the community other than crime and juvenile delinquency.
